Abstract

This talk details Reddit's transition from third-party vendors to a custom, open-source observability stack built on OpenTelemetry, Kafka, ClickHouse, and Grafana. The speaker shares technical challenges, including optimizations for handling 10 million spans per second, and provides a "war story" about a sitewide outage caused by improper sidecar instrumentation and sampling changes.
