Microsoft has issued a warning regarding a bug impacting Windows 11, version 24H2, when installed using media that includes the October or November 2024 security updates. The issue prevents affected systems from receiving further security updates. This vulnerability only surfaces when installing the operating system using USB drives or CDs that were created with the specific updates released between October 8th and November 12th of 2024. Devices updated through Windows Update or the Microsoft Update Catalog are not affected by the security flaw.
Microsoft advises users to avoid using installation media containing the October and November 2024 updates to install Windows 11. Users who have already installed the OS through an affected media are advised to either wait for a fix from Microsoft or uninstall the 24H2 update. The company is actively working on a resolution to this issue. To avoid this problem, it is recommended that installation media is created using the December 2024 security updates, which were released on December 10th, 2024, or later.
