LineageOS, a popular custom Android ROM, has released version 22.1, based on Android 15 QPR1. This release marks a significant achievement, showcasing the project's ability to rapidly adapt to the latest Android code-base. The team highlighted that their previous work adapting to Google's UI changes in Android 12 through 14 enabled a faster rebase this time. LineageOS 22.1 is also noted for having an unusually easy device bring-up cycle meaning a larger number of devices are supported from the initial release. The new version also sees a change to its versioning scheme, now aligning with Google's quarterly Android releases. This means the ".1" in the version number indicates it's based on Android 15 QPR1.

LineageOS 22.1 introduces two new applications: Twelve, a replacement for the aging music player, and Camelot, a new PDF reader. The project also noted improvements including completely new extract utilities written in Python which massively improves extraction performance, and virtIO support. The release incorporates the November Android security patches, and is available for a wide selection of devices, including the Pixel 9 series. The developers said they were able to release this build so quickly due to a boost in contributors and the reinvigorated passion of the existing contributors.
