Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) has experienced a cyber attack, forcing the institution to take its entire network offline. This precautionary measure, enacted after suspicious activity was detected on Saturday, has resulted in the suspension of all classes and educational activities for thousands of students. The university, a key partner for chip-making giant ASML, is located near ASML’s headquarters, raising potential concerns about the impact of the attack. While the university's network systems were made inaccessible, there is currently no confirmation of any data theft, and investigations are ongoing into the nature and extent of the cyber attack.

The university has confirmed that core systems like the parking system, internal phone system, and canteen cash registers are not operational because of the network shutdown. Priority is being given to getting education-related applications back online, with portions of the network expected to be restored in the coming days. In response to the incident, TU/e has implemented 24/7 monitoring to prevent future attacks. As a result of the continuing recovery efforts, the exams scheduled for January 20th have been postponed by one week, and classes have also been cancelled for the 14th of January. Students are advised to monitor official channels for further updates.
