Abstract

RayInitiator is a persistent multi-stage GRUB bootkit targeting Cisco ASA 5500-X series devices lacking secure boot, facilitating the deployment of LINE VIPER, a sophisticated user-mode shellcode loader. This campaign represents a significant advancement over previous iterations like LINE DANCER and LINE RUNNER, featuring enhanced defense evasion, victim-specific encryption, and the ability to execute CLI commands, capture packets, and bypass AAA authentication.
