Abstract

As frontier AI models become more advanced, the cybersecurity threat landscape is undergoing a fundamental shift. Cisco's research into models like Anthropic's Mythos and OpenAI's GPT-5.5-Cyber indicates that AI-enabled adversaries can exhibit agentic behaviors, such as strategic reasoning and situational awareness. This shift lowers the skill floor for attackers and accelerates the exploitation cycle, necessitating a transition from traditional reactive defenses to automated, machine-speed, and embedded active defense strategies.
