Abstract

Since June 2023, Microsoft has observed significant cyber and influence trends from China and North Korea, characterized by a focus on familiar targets coupled with more sophisticated techniques. Chinese actors have targeted the South Pacific, the South China Sea, and the US defense industrial base, while increasingly utilizing AI-enhanced content for influence operations. Simultaneously, North Korean actors have expanded their cryptocurrency heists and software supply chain attacks, utilizing AI to improve the effectiveness of reconnaissance and spear-phishing.
