Emotet Botnet Takedown Disrupts 1 Billion Phishing Messages Network
In October 2026, a multinational operation led by Microsoft, Health‑ISAC, Japan Cybercrime Control Center (JC3) and private‑sector partners seized Emotet command‑and‑control infrastructure, sinkholed domains such as emotet‑c2.net and update‑server.org, and blocked more than one billion phishing messages generated by the botnet’s loader and spam module. The disruption dismantled three phishing kits—CoGUI/NX/FA, Haozi/Phoenix, and Iron Man System—preventing credential‑harvesting campaigns and enabling remediation via Spamhaus feeds and HHS guidance.
